Theater, comedy and Pop mucis to look forward to in 2015

Winter may feel like it’s here to stay, but the first couple months of the new year are full of shows, concerts and other events to keep us busy indoors. A&E writers share what they’re looking forward to seeing in the coming weeks.

THEATER

‘Cinderella’

With a terrific Rodgers & Hammerstein score, this show includes a hilarious duet, “Stepsisters’ Lament,” for a couple of girls who deserve a good number. Pumpkins and glass slippers also are involved.

Jan. 20-Feb. 1 at the Fox Theatre, 527 North Grand Boulevard.

‘Imagining Madoff’

Bobby Miller and Wayne Salomon — friends since high school, theater artists who’ve worked together since the late great Theatre Project Company was in its heyday — co-star as the notorious swindler and one of his victims, a man very much like Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel. The play has a lot of potential for thoughtful post-show conversation.

Jan. 22-Feb. 8 at the Wool Studio Theatre, JCC’s A&E building at the Staenberg Family Complex, 2 Millstone Campus Drive.

‘The Winslow Boy’

Terence Rattigan’s meaty drama follows the story of a British father who fights relentlessly to defend his son, unjustly expelled from a military school. Rattigan was once one of England’s most popular playwrights; a successful revival of this play in New York and London reminded audiences why.

Feb. 11-March 8 at Browning Mainstage, Loretto-Hilton Center, 130 Edgar Road.

‘Jerry Springer The Opera’

This absolutely outrageous musical looks at modern culture at its compelling nadir. If that’s not a New Line Theatre show, what is?

March 5-28 at Washington University South Campus Theatre, 6501 Clayton Road.

COMEDY AND POP MUSIC

Hozier, Ásgeir

It was great to see St. Louis fans on top of the whole Hozier thing. Shortly after tickets went on sale for the gig at the Pageant, they were gone. And with good reason. Hozier has quickly made himself one to watch with his self-titled album and his stirring “Take Me to Church” hit, which is nominated for a song of the year Grammy.

8 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Pageant, 6161 Delmar Boulevard. .

Lisa Lampanelli

The last time comedian Lisa Lampanelli touched down in St. Louis was a 2012 concert at the Pageant in which she fully lived up to her Queen of Mean title. One can only hope the insult comic will be as true to form this time around.

8 p.m. March 6 at Event Center at River City Casino, 777 River City Casino Boulevard.

Ledisi, Raheem DeVaughn, Leela James

Ledisi’s concerts have been getting bigger and better with each go-round as the soul singer has been putting her flashier side on display. But for her “The Intimate Truth” tour, she’s appears to be returning to where she started. Having Raheem DeVaughn and Leela James on the bill with her is like two layers of icing on an already tasty cake.

7:30 p.m. March 8 at the Pageant.
