Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner : Divorcing

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are divorced.

Modal TriggerBen Affleck and Jennifer Garner with their daughters on May 28

The “Batman v Superman” star, 42, and Garner, 43, who have three children, Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3, on Tuesday confirmed they are divorcing after 10 years of marriage.

Jennifer Garner and   Ben Affleck are divorcing after years of couples therapy and a separation of over six months.

The Hollywood couple said in a joint statement, “After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children, whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter.”

The couple has recently been going through a rough patch, amid reports of Affleck’s gambling and alleged liaisons with other women, but sources say they’d drifted apart and had been in professional therapy for years. They announced their split a day after their 10th wedding anniversary, but their statement was timed for when their children were out of school for the summer.

A source close to the situation said Affleck and Garner are using a mediator to work out the divorce, noting, “This isn’t going to end up in a dramatic court case, they are trying to resolve it as quickly and easily as possible. Ben and Jennifer have been separated for more than six months. They have been seeing counselors for years. The situation is that people change and they grow apart.

They plan to share custody and co-parent their kids.” Ben, who has been staying in hotels in recent months, will live on the property of their Brentwood marital home, but will not share the main house, we’re told.

Affleck and Garner met on the set of 2001’s “Pearl Harbor” and starred together in 2003’s “Daredevil.” They wed in June 2005. But during his 2013 Oscars acceptance speech for “Argo,” Affleck alluded to issues in the marriage, saying to Garner in the audience, “I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s good. It is work, but the best kind of work, and there’s no one I’d rather work with.”

World’s Smallest Barcode Reader

World’s Smallest Barcode Reader
Microscan’s embedded barcode reader and machine vision inspection cameras are designed to meet precise requirements for form, fit, and function for the life of clinical instruments. From the world’s smallest machine vision smart camera, Vision MINI, to the highest-speed embedded laser barcode scanner, MS-3, Microscan offers powerful miniature technologies to meet OEM needs for diverse applications.

Manufacturers can easily embed components to automate processes like specimen and reagent identification and tracking, tube cap presence and absence, cap type and color identification, dimensional measurements such as tube height and diameter, automated alignment and robotic guidance, and FDA UDI compliance validation within devices and instruments.

Microscan cameras pack complete functionality within tiny packages, including built-in imaging, lighting, autofocus, and processing power, eliminating the need for peripheral equipment. Corner-exit cabling (RS-232, USB, and Ethernet) offers the tightest fit within space-constrained installation environments.

Advanced optics enable devices to read codes and inspect elements at variable distances and orientations, providing the greatest freedom in device mounting. Once installed, Microscan devices are remotely adjustable via simple software interfaces to change focus and barcode type, program input and output, and even upgrade to complex machine vision inspection functionality without needing physical access to the device. These features future-proof clinical instruments with scalability to meet new challenges as requirements change, eliminating the need for mounting adjustments or redesigns.

At Clinical Lab Expo, Microscan will offer a first-ever preview of new hardware innovations slated to join its product line later this year. Setting the next benchmark in device size, configurability, and performance to meet any specific application requirement, these new cameras will lead the industry for flexibility in the most space-constrained installations.

The complete engine and camera platform has been designed with life science and OEM applications in mind, focused on incredible power on an incredibly small scale, and can be manufactured for years to accommodate exact customer requirements. The final product will offer complete agility in integration, to perform any automated data acquisition or inspection task in a limited space.

Users can select from a range of hardware configurations as well as choose their device capability, from basic barcode reading to full machine vision for guidance, dimensional measurements, tube cap presence, color identification, and more. Driven by Microscan’s user-focused engineering, anyone without barcode or machine vision experience can easily install one of these devices into new or existing systems to outperform competitive instruments for speed, precision, adaptability to changing criteria, and the longevity of its components.

Excellent Android Projector

Excellent Android Projector

What Is It?

A jack of all trades and a master of none. The ZTE Spro 2 is a tiny, kind of awkward Android tablet (running Android 4.4.4, if you must know), a sort of large and bulky 4G LTE hotspot and a portable, 200 Lumen projector. It’s pretty awesome, but also completely awkward and weird. It’s very much a “sometimes” gadget, something that doesn’t have a regular place in my day-to-day life, but can be handy to have around.

Using It

OK, let me level with you: I called the ZTE Spro 2 part tablet, but that’s not completely true. Yes, it has a landscape-oriented touchscreen with an Android interface, but using it for more than a few minutes is kind of uncomfortable.

You can blame the chassis — the Spro 2 is primarily a Mini Projector, and it’s shaped like one: It’s a big, heavy, inch-thick brick. You aren’t going to use it to check your email, play touch games, browse the web or anything like that: this device’s screen is just a means to end… and that’s ok! This thing exists to project movies, and it’s surprisingly great at that.

Getting started is easy: The typical viewing session consists of tapping the smartphone-sized touchscreen a few times to launch a streaming app (Netflix, Hulu, Google Play, whatever), picking your programing and tapping a floating “projector” icon that’s always hovering in the screen’s upper right hand corner.

That’s it. The projector focuses automatically, the quick menu lets you adjust brightness (between low, medium and high, although only low and medium are available if you’re running on battery) and it’s pretty great.

If you want to get really advanced, the options menu lets you manually adjust the focus or digitally tilt the projection to match the angle of a wall or ceiling. You can manage Android projection, Miracast or HDMI inputs — more than enough options to provide a deeper projection experience, if you need it.

The problem I had was figuring where it fit in my life.

What I Actually Used It For

As a portable projector, the ZTE Spro 2 doesn’t fit easily into my life. At home, I already have a 40-inch television and a dozen other screens on which I can enjoy content. If I’m going over to a friend’s house for movie night, they probably also have a TV, a solid internet connection, or sometimes even a high-end home theatre projector. For the Spro 2 to make sense, I had to put myself into a situation where I needed a large screen and a stable internet connection in a place where I would normally have neither. That was hard.
Excellent Android Projector
See, the projector has its limits: It can only go up to medium brightness on battery, which makes it pretty worthless outdoors during daylight hours (though it was perfectly usable indoors, with the lights on, as long as the projector was within four or five feet of the target surface). I tried using it to watch a movie in my backyard BBQ pit, but it was pretty hard to see until the sun started setting.
The best use I can imagine the Spro 2 is camping. Maybe it’s late at night and you can’t sleep — it’s already dark and tent material makes a great makeshift projector screen, why not watch a movie? But… I’m not going camping anytime soon.
I did manage to watch a few movies on the Spro 2 while my TV was unplugged over the weekend (I was rearranging the furniture), but that doesn’t happen on a regular basis — and while the Spro 2 is technically a full Android tablet, it’s too awkward to use for more than a couple of minutes. So what did I use it for? Well, it turns out it’s a pretty good LTE hotspot. When my internet died last week, the Spro was there — pumping fast, reliable LTE wifi to all the devices in my house. It’s absurdly large for a LTE hotspot, true — but the functionality made it useful to me on a more regular basis — power outages, train rides, airport layovers. That’s a big deal.

Like

The projector is smart enough to know if its projecting on a slanted surface, and will automatically adjust the angle of the projection to compensate for the surface. It made watching TV on my ceiling much nicer.
Battery Life: The projector was able to Stream Netflix over LTE for 2:40 minutes, enough to watch almost any film.
Excellent Android Projector
In addition to mirroring its own screen and projecting Miracast devices, the ZTE Spro 2 has a full-sized HDMI input.

No Like

The audio quality is iffy at best. Yeah, you can hear everything just fine, but it’s not particularly loud and there’s no discernible stereo separation. I didn’t expect much more from the tiny box’s speakers, but the disconnect between where the screen was and where the audio coming from was noticeable. Pair it with a bluetooth speaker if you want a better audio experience.
Battery Life: The projector was able to Stream Netflix over LTE for 2:40 minutes, not quite enough to watch any movie in my library.
HDMI input (and projection) is capped at 720p. Hardly a dealbreaker, but definitely a bummer.
You know that micro USB cable you use to charge every phone and tablet you own? It won’t work with the Spro 2.

10 sexiest women in August

Chrissy Teigen, W Magazine

They might be supermodels, but they're also social media stars. W magazine has selected the 10 sexiest women for its August, Pop issue, in which women such as Chrissy Teigen, Bella Hadid and Lily Aldridge strip down to show readers a side of themselves they wouldn't normally see on their social media profiles.

Other models featured in the spread are Emily Ratajkowski, Joan Smalls, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Irina Shayk, Anna Ewers, Barbara Palvin and Doutzen Kroes.

Teigen, who has become well known for her outspoken demeanor, strikes a sultry pose for the mag's glossy pages. Wearing no shirt with her breasts fully on display, John Legend's wife stares off into the distance with a with a snarky facial expression.

Lace-up boots and oversized white panties are the only two pieces of clothing that make up her outfit, but the model admits inside the magazine that less is more.

"The most uncomfortable I've ever been on set was having to model coats," she confesses. "I actually am better in less clothing."

Victoria's Secret Angel and Sports Illustrated model Lily Aldridge has about 2.2 million Instagram followers and admits if she has "a sleepless night, I check my Instagram." But based on her spread (pun totally intended) for the magazine's "Privacy Settings" shoot, Aldridge fully intends to keep all her followers completely engaged. The supermodel stares seductively into the camera while she places her hand right on top of her lady parts.

Age is merely just a number in this photo shoot, as 17-year-old Hadid also strips down for "Privacy Settings." Holding a cigarette while wearing no pants, the model, who is now dating The Weeknd, holds one leg up in the air to show off her full-size Eres briefs. She pairs the undies with a sea-foam green Prada sweater. Whether it's her pose or the way the photo is shot, Gigi Hadid's sister hardly looks her age!

As for why W fashion director Edward Enninful took the shoot in this sexual direction, he says, "With social media as their platform for expression, models captivate audiences in new ways, their power to seduce—fans and brands alike—stronger than ever."

Miami's Parties : July 4th

Miami's Parties : July 4th

While America has observed July 4 as a national holiday for the past 239 years, the Declaration was actually approved on July 2. Just as historically sound as the proclamation itself, however, is a letter written by John Adams to his wife Abigail.

That's how our founding fathers partied it up on the Delaware River in 1776 when the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the 13 colonies autonomous over the British Empire.

"The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America," the patriot pens. "I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other." In other words, a nation-wide turn-up fest.

So put on that American flag bikini, rock those red-white-and-blue shades, and celebrate independence like the freedom-fighting patriot that you are with the Magic City's ten best Fourth of July parties of 2015.

No other video journal in the 305 loves America more than the crew over at Audio Junkie. That's why brothers Gregorio and Eduardo Alvarez are gathering all their musically-inclined stars-and-stripes-loving friends and putting together a three-day Independence Day Bash jam-packed with live tuneage from Kenny Millions, the Gun Hoes, and a bunch of other bands. Iris Scanner on Galaxy S7 and LG G5

Iris Scanner on Galaxy S7 and LG G5
Iris Scanner on Galaxy S7 and LG G5

LG and Samsung will feature an iris scanner in their future flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and LG G5. Both devices are said to launch in the first half of 2016.

Iris recognition is perceived as the next security standard that will soon find its way to mobile devices. Soon, it will replace the current fingerprint scanning technology as more and more companies adopt the system's more secure functionality.

Reports claim Samsung and LG are the latest companies to be employing the method of iris scanning with the release of their future flagships. Users should expect to see the new security standard in their products slated for release in 2016.

Both companies are said to have been working on iris recognition technology for quite some time now. Speculations have been made every time the companies release a new handset. It began when Samsung was about to release the Galaxy S5, and LG the G3. The next assumption came when Samsung was about to launch the Galaxy Note Tablet.

Iris scanner has recently been incorporated in a number of smartphones in Asia. These include the Chinese-made Vivo X5 Pro and the Japanese-made Fujitsu Arrows NX F-04G. The latter also features a QHD display of 5.2 inches, a RAM of 3GB, built-in storage of 32GB and Snapdragon 810.

Apart from the iris recognition technology, Samsung's future flagship will reportedly come with a higher resolution display compared to the company's current flagship devices. The future device is said to measure 2560 by 1440.

There's also speculation that the future Galaxy S7 will sport an Ultra HD 4K display. The said screen is one of the features that users can expect to see on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 5. The latter is scheduled to launch sometime in August or September this year.

The LG G5, on its part, will feature a main camera of 20MP and the same 4K display found in Samsung's future flagship. Other features include 3D image capturing and in-built wireless charging.

Iris scanning works by scanning the eyes of the smartphone's owner through the device's front camera. The scanned image is then analyzed and compared with stored biometric data. One company that specializes in biometric technology is Irience, which entered into partnership with LG Electronics.

Bill Hudson : Oliver And Kate Hudson

Bill Hudson : Oliver And Kate Hudson
Bill Hudson : Oliver And Kate Hudson

"I had five birth children but I now consider myself a father of three. I no longer recognize Oliver and Kate as my own," Hudson said in an interview with The Daily Mail.

Bill Hudson, the estranged father of actors Oliver and Kate Hudson, is firing back after his son's scathing Instagram post with a seething message of his own.

"I would ask them to stop using the Hudson name," he continued. "They are no longer a part of my life. Oliver’s Instagram post was a malicious, vicious, premeditated attack. He is dead to me now. As is Kate. I am mourning their loss even though they are still walking this earth."

The comments come in response to an Instagram post by Oliver Hudson that went viral. The photo, reportedly taken more than 30 years ago, featured the actor and his sister as kids with Bill, and was posted with the caption, "Happy abandonment day...

Hudson also slammed his ex-wife Goldie Hawn, who he says "poisoned" the kids against him, and expressed dismay at his daughter Kate's Father's Day post, which was a picture of her with Kurt Russell, Hawn's longtime partner.

The caption on the post read, "Pa, just simply..... Thank you 🙏 Happy Fathers Day I love you to the moon and back."

"It was an intimate shot and, as her father, I found it inappropriate and unsettling," Hudson said. "I’ll leave it at that."

The Huffington Post has reached out to representatives for Bill, Kate and Oliver Hudson and will update this post if and when a comment is received.

Shia LaBeouf : Freestyle Rapper

Shia LaBeouf : Freestyle Rapper
Shia LaBeouf : Freestyle Rapper

It seems we have now entered the WTF phase of Shia LaBeouf’s mystifying-yet-fascinating career.

In a video going viral, LaBeouf delivers a freestyle rap comparing himself to Tupac. It’s only the latest in a long line of odd behavior from the former Disney star.

The 29-year-old who got his start collecting Daytime Emmys for his turn as a Dennis the Menace-like troublemaker on the Disney Channel’s Even Stevens has, through a series of Hollywood misadventures and psychedelic drugs, evolved into something of a modern-day renaissance man; a mini James Franco (if Franco spent less time taking selfies and more time tripping balls and causing mayhem).

LaBeouf’s latest offering to the online gods is a particularly potent shred of cultural mana: a minute-plus video of Transformers star freestyle rapping, his unmistakable rat-tail slung over his shoulder. In the video, the shirtless actor appears to be entertaining a group of amused/bewildered teenagers with his heretofore unseen emcee skills.

“You can’t really fuck with this, dog, I’m the best in the west and shit /
If you could give me this shoe, yo, you know the shoe fits and this Jew do spew shit and the shit’s sick /
Oh shit, best to do this since Tupac was doing music /
Yessir, this Jewish kid still spew this sick shit, though.”

This video, of course, comes on the heels of another one-minute, meme-ready video wherein a jacked-up LaBeouf delivered what can only be described as one of the most intense and confounding motivational speeches ever, replete with plenty of flexing, pointing, and yelling, “DO IT!”

Other strange recent happenings in the Life of LaBeouf include his former neighbor, Brandon Bird, who painted LaBeouf as all 13 Doctor Who doctors. He’s also become a pretty method-y actor these days, including guzzling moonshine and scrapping with Tom Hardy during the filming of Lawless; dropping acid for Charlie Countryman; going full-frontal in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac; and earlier this week, suffering a massive head injury requiring 20 stitches and 13 staples after demanding to perform his own stunt while filming American Honey, directed by Andrea Arnold.

And lest we forget his plagiarism controversy and subsequent bizarre L.A. art project #IAMSORRY, where he let attendees join him in a room and stare at LaBeouf in silence, clad in a suit and with a paper bag over his head. Our reporter removed the bag to reveal a sobbing LaBeouf, while the actor claims that a more aggressive patron took it upon herself to rape him.

Last May, he continued his performance art shtick with the project Meditation for Narcissists, which he put on at London’s Auto Italia South East. It entailed LaBeouf jumping rope for an hour via Skype, and encouraging those in the audience to take ropes provided by the gallery and jump along with him, or in his words, “join me on my quest to find my inner self.”

The following month, that would be June 2014, LaBeouf was arrested after acting drunk and disorderly, yelling at the stage during a performance of Cabaret at New York’s Studio 54 Theater. He refused to leave, and was hauled off by police—who claimed in the arrest report that he spat on them.

Earlier this year, he joined dance sensation Maddie Ziegler for the riveting music video to Sia’s “Elastic Heart,” featuring LaBeouf and Ziegler interpretive cage-dancing to reflect a contentious father-daughter relationship.

Interestingly enough, LaBeouf’s first name, Shia, is derived from the Hebre shai Yah, which translates to “gift of God.” His last name translates to “The Beef.” So, you can translate his full name to, “Thank God for the Beef.”

Hackers steal $160 billion worth of intellectual property from Western companies every year, according to cyber-security experts. The damage, they say, is incalculable and Western governments have made it a priority to protect their nations' commercial assets.
But try telling that to Donald McGurk, chief executive of Australian communications, metal detection and mining technology firm Codan, who has watched sales and prices of his firm's metal detectors collapse since Chinese hackers stole its designs three years ago to sell cheap imitations into Africa.

With the Australian government wary of rocking the boat ahead of this month's historic signing of a free trade deal, McGurk says he was forced to hire a private investigative firm in China to stage a series of raids on counterfeit factories.

"They said you're on your own," McGurk told Reuters, referring to the Australian government officials he lobbied to help with his problem. The Australian government did not immediately respond to queries about Codan.

Codan's experience provides a rare look at the longer-term impacts of hacking on companies, as most keep the extent of an incident under wraps. In fact, experts say many firms continue to turn a blind eye to cybersecurity even as hackers become increasingly sophisticated.

A PriceWaterhouseCoopers report found the average information security budget dropped 4 percent to $4.1 million last year, reversing a three-year trend of rising funds to tackle cybercrime. That was even as the total number of detected security incidents jumped 48 percent to 42.8 million globally, PWC said.

Bryce Boland, chief technology officer for Asia at cyber-security firm FireEye Inc, said many companies are too focused on the reverse engineering capabilities of Chinese companies, which allow them to copy products within weeks of their public launch.
"They may be good at reverse engineering but they're much better at just getting the plans during the development phase (via hacking) and leveraging those immediately," Boland said by telephone from Singapore.

COUNTERFEIT GOLD RUSH

Codan began to realise it had a problem when it started receiving faulty metal detector back into its services centre in 2011. Those products, stamped with the Codan logo, had unrecognizable, inferior parts.

Then the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) came knocking: a Codan employee's laptop had been hacked into when he logged on using hotel wifi during a business trip to China. With an African gold rush underpinning demand for the metal detectors, Codan's blueprints had been filched by a Chinese manufacturing chain.

McGurk asked the Australian government for help, requesting they speak to Chinese authorities, but discovered his company was on its own. McGurk believes a landmark free trade deal with China, recently signed after more than a decade of negotiations, was responsible.

"No one wants to muddy the waters by putting in play something that's negative," he said.
The company instead spent "significant sums" on private investigators, who worked with China police to track the supply chain of the counterfeit metal detectors.

They discovered it led to Dubai, where police raids found "significant" numbers of counterfeit gold detectors in storage, en route to Sudan, Guinea and Niger.
China meted out jail terms of up to two years for the principals of three first-tier manufacturing companies in the supply chain, while Dubai fined several players around A$5,000 ($3,859.50) each, McGurk said.

Codan, meanwhile, was forced to slash the price of its gold detectors from around A$4,000-A$5,000 to around A$2,500 to compete with the counterfeiters.
The company's net profit fell to A$9.2 million in the year to June 30, 2014, from A$45 million a year earlier as a result.

CORPORATE RAIDERS

China's infiltration of private online business has returned to the spotlight this month after United States officials blamed Chinese hackers for compromising the records of up to four million current and former government employees.

China has called the U.S. comments irresponsible, while President Barack Obama vowed that the U.S. would aggressively bolster its cyber defences.

Behind these public state-level spats, many companies are fighting a quieter battle where the front keeps changing.

FireEye said it uncovered a hacking campaign in June by a China-based group it calls APT3, targeting organizations in the aerospace and defense, construction and engineering, high tech, telecommunications and transportation industries.

FireEye says APT3 engages in "phishing", a technique of sending company employees innocuous emails containing website addresses which trick them into downloading programs that automatically lead to protected information. It says APT3 is especially sophisticated because it constantly changes online identities, making it difficult to track.

Codan is ramping up its defences. The Adelaide-based company is introducing encrypted products, employs three or four people to work full-time on preventing hacking-led counterfeiting and has an Australian lawyer whose sole role is to coordinate those efforts.

"I don't think you could ever presume it's behind you, but now we're in a position to understand what's happened," McGurk said. "It's like playing Whack-A-Mole. They just pop up somewhere else."

Gold Antennas : molecular bonds

Gold Antennas : molecular bonds
Gold Antennas : molecular bonds

Micrometer-long gold antennas (lower left) absorb and re-radiate infrared radiation (top center). A layer of plastic immediately above the antennas (bottom center) experiences near-field electromagnetic radiation that excites molecular bonds (top right)

The antenna inside your smart phone efficiently picks up the electromagnetic transmissions used by the device. Borrowing this trick, researchers have used tiny gold antennas to boost the power of infrared techniques that record the twists and turns of chemical bonds. The method could track the workings of cell membranes and help chemists develop responsive surface coatings that react to changing conditions.

Chemical bonds typically vibrate, stretch, or wiggle when they absorb specific wavelengths of infrared (IR) light, making IR spectroscopy a versatile tool for molecular studies. In a recently developed technique known as nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy, an ultrashort pulse of IR light, lasting tens of femtoseconds or less, sets a bond in motion. Then a second pulse hits the bond a few picoseconds later.

Because the bond is now moving in some way, it absorbs the light differently than it did the first time. By hitting a bond with a series of ultrashort pulses and detecting the transmitted light, researchers can create snapshots of the bond’s ultrafast motion. Such methods have been used to observe the formation and breaking of hydrogen bonds, the unfolding of proteins when exposed to heat, and the disassociation of ion pairs in water.

In theory, this method could also be useful in studying thin molecular surfaces, such as the lipid bilayer of a cell membrane. But there’s a problem: most molecular bonds are inefficient at capturing IR radiation. Although a bond’s vibration frequencies correspond to those of IR light, its size—less than a nanometer—is much smaller than micrometer-scale IR wavelengths.

This mismatch makes chemical bonds poor antennas for IR radiation, and small biological samples do not contain enough molecules to generate a detectable response for nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy to work. To get around this difficulty, Yves Rezus and his colleagues at the FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF) in Amsterdam decided to provide some help in the form of tiny gold antennas.

Rezus and his colleagues fabricated gold strips, 200 nanometers (nm) wide, 100 nm thick, and 2,000 nm long, on a transparent base. Preliminary experiments showed that strips with these dimensions are good antennas for 5800-nm IR light, a wavelength the researchers selected because it excites carbon-oxygen (C-O) bonds. They then deposited on these antennas a 5-nm-thick layer of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), a transparent plastic also known as Lucite or Plexiglas that contains a high density of C-O bonds.

Using a pump-probe technique in which one laser pulse excites the sample and a second tests how the sample changes in response, the researchers found that the PMMA plus gold antenna arrangement yielded a signal that was ten thousand times greater than the PMMA alone. “We went from something that was barely detectable to—Bam!—this huge signal,” says Rezus.

This enhancement occurs because of “near-field” electromagnetic effects close to the antennas. The gold strips absorb and re-radiate IR radiation, but at distances of more than a few wavelengths, the reradiated waves are similar to the incoming radiation and no better at exciting C-O bonds. However, each PMMA film is within a few nanometers of an antenna, where the electric and magnetic fields take on a complex form that more efficiently excites C-O bonds in the PMMA.

Although other researchers have explored near-field effects of small antennas, this is the first application to nonlinear vibrational spectroscopy. The team believes that by fine-tuning the shape of the antennas they could boost the sensitivity of the technique by another factor of 10, making it useful for investigating biological materials that have fewer C-O bonds than PMMA. Rezus says the technique could probe how drugs permeate through cell membranes or capture the inner workings of so-called responsive surfaces—materials that alter their color in the presence of a chemical or repel dirt or odors.

Javier Aizpurua of the Materials Physics Center in San Sebastián, Spain, who studies metallic nanoantennas and ultrafast phenomena, says the method is “a very nice new thing that opens the door to addressing the dynamics of very low amounts of molecules.”

Reserve Strap : 30 Hours Battery

Reserve Strap : 30 Hours Battery
Reserve Strap : 30 Hours Battery

Reserve Strap just announced the final details for its Apple Watch battery band, which it claims will add an additional 30 hours of battery life to the device. The Reserve Strap will ship at the beginning of November and will cost a pretty staggering $249.99.

The “Specialized Thermoset Elastometer Silicon band” (lol) will boast the same water resistance as the Apple Watch, and will be available in white, grey and black models. Both sizes of straps for the 38mm and 42mm Watch will increase the device’s total battery life to “48 hours of functionality.”  It seem that you have Power Bank inside Apple Watch.

The Reserve Strap is the first battery band to be made available for the Apple Watch and addresses key concerns with battery life that a number of users have raised regarding the device, namely its inability to make it through more than a day on a single charge.

The Reserve Strap is in full compliance with Apple’s Band Design Guidelines and won’t violate your AppleCare warranty. The Reserve Strap makes use of the Apple Watch’s hidden diagnostic port to enable seamless charging of both watch and band, though unfortunately in order to charge both at the same time you have to do so through the Micro USB port on the band rather than using the Watch’s magnetic charger. No need more Power Bank with you.

Though Apple surprised users by announcing their open support for third-party bands, they have yet to respond to device makers like Reserve Strap who are utilizing the Apple Watch’s hidden diagnostic port, and it has not been specifically condoned in their design guidelines.
For what it does, the Reserve Strap definitely seems like a huge chunk of change, but for significantly extending the battery life of a device that can cost upwards of $10,000, it may be worth the premium for some users.

Rose McGowan : Against Sexism

Rose McGowan : Against Sexism
Rose McGowan : Against Sexism

Late Wednesday, the actress and director wrote on Twitter that her agent fired her because she “spoke up” about Hollywood casting practices, adding the hashtag #BRINGIT.

Pushback against Hollywood sexism seems to have gotten Rose McGowan dropped from the talent agency Innovative Artists.

Last week, the actress had tweeted the casting notes from a movie whose star, she wrote, has a name that “rhymes with Madam Panhandler.”

“Form fitting tank that shows off cleavage (push up bras encouraged),” part of the note read, prompting Ms. McGowan to tweet, “Ha ha I die.”

A few days later, Ms. McGowan told Entertainment Weekly that while she was not trying to vilify Adam Sandler in the tweet, it was “the stupidity more than anything” that set her off. “I was offended by the fact that went through so many people’s hands and nobody red flagged it,” Ms. McGowan said. “This is normal to so many people.”

A publicist for Ms. McGowan did not return messages; but a woman who answered the phone at the Los Angeles-based Innovative Artists and did not give her name, said the agency had stopped representing Ms. McGowan as of Wednesday, but that she was not privy as to why.

Bristol Palin : Pregnant

Bristol Palin : Pregnant
Bristol Palin : Pregnant

Bristol Palin revealed what she called “big news” in a blog post on Thursday: She’s pregnant with her second child, More than a month after calling off her wedding.

“I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you,” the 24-year-old Palin wrote in a post on her blog, noting that she was making the announcement sooner than expected because online trolls “have nothing better to talk about!!!”

The news comes after former vice presidential hopeful and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said in May that her daughter was calling off her wedding to 2011 Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer less than a week before the big day.

“I wanted you guys to be the first to know that I am pregnant,” Bristol Palin’s Thursday blog post said. “Honestly, I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my chin up on this one.”

At the end of the day there’s nothing I can’t do with God by my side, and I know I am fully capable of handling anything that is put in front of me with dignity and grace.

Life moves on no matter what.  So no matter how you feel, you get up, get dressed, show up, and never give up.

When life gets tough, there is no other option but to get tougher.
I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you.

But please respect Tripp’s and my privacy during this time. I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy.

My little family always has, and always will come first.

Worlds smallest Power Bank

Worlds smallest Power Bank
Worlds smallest Power Bank

The Eachine 6,000mAh power bank claims to be the "worlds smallest dual cell power bank with LCD display". It is certainly light at 4.5 ounces (128g) and easy to hold - even for smaller hands.

The case is high gloss lacquer, so high gloss that you can use it as a mirror. When I peeled the plastic off the lacquered sides, I created perfect fingerprints with the first touch of the case.

I like the LED display showing me how much power the power bank has remaining. It is a nice addition to a portable battery. I knew exactly when I needed to charge it without plugging in to my smartphone.

I also liked the LED light function which would be very useful if I did not have the torch app on my phone. It was useful during a power cut in the region yesterday too.
What I did not like is that as soon as I plugged it in to my Lumia 1520, I got the notification that the phone was charging slowly.

The power bank will charge the Lumia, but it will take a long time to do so.
I changed the supplied Eachine charging cable for one of my other cables and the problem disappeared. There is obviously a problem with the cable output in the unit I received

On the positive side, charging my phone using this device does not heat the phone up as much as some of the ultra fast chargers I have tested recently.

The user manual could do with some editing work. Some of the phrasing could be improved significantly. However, whilst the English could be improved the instructions are understandable.

The device does not come with either a pouch or a wallet. I was so concerned about scratching the high gloss surface that I replaced the protective plastic film on to the lacquered sides.

All in all this is a neat little power bank that would suit users with low output requirements, or users that do not mind a slow but steady charge from a small shiny device.

Lexus hoverboard : Back to The Future

Lexus hoverboard : Back to The Future
Lexus hoverboard : Back to The Future

Lexus generated a feverish buzz online when it launched an ad campaign showing a functioning hoverboard that seems fit for Marty McFly himself.

An independent contractor designed and built the hoverboard featured in a commercial for Toyota's luxury brand.

And it works, but there's a big caveat: It only operates in a controlled environment.
Lexus said the test hoverboard in its "Amazing in Motion" campaign generates magnetic levitation by combining the effects of liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors and permanent magnets.

In the commercial, it appears to be levitating above concrete. But that's because there are magnets underneath the surface.

The brand said it will test the hoverboard in a similarly controlled environment in Barcelona, Spain.

Lexus hoverboard : Back to The Future
Lexus hoverboard : Back to The Future

"It's part of an ad campaign we're filming in Spain," Durand said. "It's just a teaser."
The movie "Back to the Future 2" popularized the futuristic concept of a skateboard-like device that can hover slightly above the ground, allowing the user to glide effortlessly from place to place.

As it happens, the 1989 film depicts the hoverboard in the year 2015.
It's not the first time a major corporate brand has tried to capitalize on the interest in the futuristic 2015 portrayed in "Back to the Future 2."

Nike plans to introduce shoes with power laces later this year, a nod to the kicks that tighten automatically when Michael J. Fox's character, Marty McFly, puts them on in the film.

So, power laces are possible. But a hoverboard is not. At least for now.

The Lexus footage does illustrate, however, that it's technically feasible in a certain environment, which will surely fuel more speculation about future technological developments or more power bank inside.

"At Lexus, we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible," said Mark Templin, executive vice president of Lexus International, in a statement. "That determination, combined with our passion and expertise for design and innovation, is what led us to take on the Hoverboard project. It's the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination."

Mariah Carey wedding ?

Mariah Carey wedding ?
Mariah Carey wedding ?
Such as the fact that they're dating in the first place. Stranger things have happened.
But, we'll still take reports that Pariah - that is the anomaly of a romance that is Mariah Carey and James Packer - are already talking marriage with a serious grain of salt.

"Mariah Carey doesn't waste time ... just days after she hopped on a yacht with new billionaire BF James Packer, they're already talking marriage," TMZ is reporting.

"Our Mariah sources say it's insane ... they've been "dating" for just a matter of days, but he's already told her he wants to marry her, sooner rather than later. The soonest can be when she's officially divorced from Nick Cannon. But we're told Mariah is open to tying the knot with James."

The 47-year-old businessman allegedly met 45-year-old Carey at one of her shows in Las Vegas 1½ months ago and has been "aggressively" pursuing her ever since.

Just a stones throw from the place he married his second wife, Erica Packer, almost eight years to the day, he continues to mount what must surely be one of the most global PDAs (Public Displays of Affection) since his good mate Shane Warne slobbered all over his former fiancee Elizabeth Hurley.

Packer and his new paramour, have been photographed wearing matching bathrobes at the "captains table" of his superyacht The Arctic P, though incongruously Packer keeps his sunglasses on despite it being pitch black.

In another shot, which has also conveniently made it onto TMZ, we see him seemingly about to "pepper" Carey's neck in kisses in a shot which is just a little too close for comfort.
Having spent the first half of the week bobbing about Capri, Packer and Carey are now off the shores of Cannes on the Cote d'Azur.

Cannes is currently hosting the international Lions advertising festival, with plenty of Australians in town.

Those who have been near the huge former ice breaker report hearing Carey's various hits on a constant loop blaring from the Arctic P's speakers.

Last night they partied in Cannes, where Carey, who has taken her four-year-old twins along for the ride, uploaded a picture of the pair with friends. Interestingly, she hashtagged #JamesPacker in the shot.

Carey separated from her husband of six years, Nick Cannon, last year while Packer ended his six-year marriage to Erica Baxter in 2013.

Oddly, Packer's first wife, Jodhi Meares is on board the boat with the new couple, as is a reported ex of Carey's, American filmmaker, Brett Ratner

Whether or not the wedding rumours are true, who knows. Stranger things.
One thing is for sure, it is certainly a circus.
