GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- It turns out that today is National Pizza Day. Who knew?

As luck would have it, I am planning to meet my friend Amy Sherman at Mitten Brewing to talk to the owners about what's been going on at one of my favorite local breweries. (The Country Strong IPA is one of my favorite beers!)

So, when I'm at Mitten Brewing, I'll order The Heater: A pizza with sweet habanero sauce, andouille sausage, jalapenos, banana peppers, green peppers and mozzarella.

Mitten was one of our finalists for the search for Michigan's Best Pizza -- a search that took us to 33 pizzerias all over the state (as nominated and voted on by the readers of MLive).

I still can't believe we sampled about 130 pizzas in about 11 days.
